Peekskill Education Foundation’s Dine Out for Education: A Community Affair

Peekskill, NY (May 14, 2009) On Wednesday, June 3, twenty-two restaurants will donate 10% of their sales— breakfast, lunch and dinner—to the Peekskill Education Foundation (PEF).

The Dine Out for Education fundraiser sponsored by the PEF is the latest effort by the foundation to raise funds for education-related programs in the Peekskill City School District. Formed in 2003, the PEF is an independent, not-for-profit organization founded to expand and enrich the educational experiences and opportunities of students within the city’s schools, as well as to foster linkages with the business community. Funds raised by the PEF are used for programs such as college credit scholarships, new music equipment, science and technology equipment, and teacher-sponsored classroom projects.

For the PEF, involving the community—both residents and the business community—is a win-win-win endeavor; residents support local businesses, the PEF raises funds for education and diners get to eat good food. The event is being promoted throughout the city. Posters are being displayed at participating restaurants, at all district schools, and on the district’s and city’s websites. In addition, public service announcements are being placed in newspapers and on the radio. A street banner will be prominently displayed and flyers will be sent home with Peekskill schoolchildren. The city’s Economic Development Department and Chamber of Commerce have also agreed to help with the promotion of the event.
